Description

The planetary nebula NGC1360 in the constellation Fornax at around 700 light years away. Also known as the Robin egg nebula due to the natural color (from strong [OIII] emissions) and shape resembling such an egg. The “cloud-like” appearance also makes it a bit of an outlier compared to most other planetary nebulas, which often display much more well-defined structures. It’s a beautiful nebula nonetheless! Represented in Ha[OIII] bicolor, with RGB stars, and mapped to true color with slight enhancement of the H-alpha to bring out the pink region.
